Dondlinger Construction: A Century of Innovation – Seamless Project Oversight
THE HISTORY
Established in 1898, Dondlinger Construction has been providing commercial construction services for over a century, including a full range of preconstruction, construction management, and design-build services. Dondlinger has special expertise in categories including healthcare, commercial interiors, corporate headquarters, mixed-use, industrial, hospitality, redevelopment, and much more. Dondlinger recently celebrated their 125th year in business as the premier commercial construction company in Kansas.
THE CHALLENGE
Dondlinger Construction needed a way to provide its project managers with the ability to monitor projects and track progress without having to call their site superintendents every hour for progress reports. Additionally, they needed to be able to remotely verify that subcontractor trades were on site when expected, check self-performance and daily productivity, and observe work activities for safety compliance.
THE SOLUTION
Having initially employed Sensera Systems’ PTZ cameras for their ability to record time-lapse video for marketing purposes, Dondlinger discovered that the cameras were highly useful for remotely monitoring daily progress for their out-of-town projects. The easy-to-use platform provides their project managers with real-time information about the daily activities on site. So, instead of being reactive based on daily reporting received from the field the following day, they can be proactive with real-time progress tracking and the ability to monitor subcontractor activity.
“We have had long-standing success with Sensera, and it’s worked well for our needs. The technology and technical service support has been superior to others,” said Troy Kapels, Vice President, Commercial Building at Dondlinger Construction.
With Sensera Systems, Dondlinger’s project managers get instant access to productivity, weather conditions, subcontractor presence, and more, and can make calls, redirect, and inquire about things they observe in real-time. This increases efficiency by reducing travel time to sites, enabling project managers to stay in their offices where they have access to more resources.
THE BENEFITS
- Complete end-to-end solution — Camera system, 4G LTE/WiFi connectivity, and Cloud-hosted servers and software all in one complete solution.
- Solar-powered, LiFePo4 Batteries & AC Power — No on-site power required; however, all Sensera camera systems come standard with all three power options. Cameras can run on battery power for up to 5 days (up to 10 days on XL models).
- Real-time, remote monitoring — Ensure productivity and communications even when you can’t be on-site.
“The best improvement since we have been using Sensera Systems is the ability to operate the cameras using solar power and cellular data. Some of our sites don’t have or get power and data service until the projects are nearly completed, which makes cameras without this option useless.”—Troy Kapels, VP, Commercial Building, Dondlinger Construction
THE PRODUCT:
Sensera MC78 and PTZ cameras. The MC78 full-featured jobsite camera produces 8MP images with live streaming and DVR edge recording for more extensive projects. PTZ cameras are designed for advanced user remote site monitoring that allows live streaming with the ability to pan/tilt and zoom in real-time. Sensera’s SiteCloud software and service integrates with most BIM software, which allows for streamlined workflow in Autodesk Construction Cloud and PlanGrid.
